The manual routing area in the vessel settings editor, is briefly described. There is more detail in the manual routing area of the user manual.
Vessels have the ability to follow both weather routes, and then plain routes. When following a weather route, the position along the route is determined by the weather router solver at fixed points in time. At the conclusion of an attached weather route, a vessel can follow a plain route. The position along the plain route is determined by the vessels average speed.
When a weather route is selected, the weather routing tool details button has a menu with an item that allows you to attach the selected solution path to the vessel:
If you perform that operation, the weather route path is converted into a special form of route.
The attached route represents the same path as was shown in the weather routing tool.
Creating attached routes is one way for you to compare the evolution of a weather forecast over time.
For example, you can generate a set of weather routes, choose one to follow and attach it to the vessel. Later, when you update the weather forecast and your position, you will generate new routes. These new routes can be compared to the previous route to track changes in the forecast. This can also be used to help you adjust the performance of your vessel.
A vessel is only allowed to follow a single attached weather route.
When the weather routing tools attach function is invoked, the system looks at whether or not the vessel is currently following a weather route. If it is, then that route is updated with the new selected path. If the vessel is not following a route, then a new route is created and the vessel modified to follow it.
If you want to keep track of a series of previous paths, before attaching a new path to a vessel you can modify the vessel to not follow any path. This allows you to create a series of weather routes.
The Weather Routing Paths list is where you can delete the special form of routes created when you attach a weather route.
After opening the paths list, tap and slide left on the path you want to delete. As you slide the path left, a Delete button will appear:
Tap the Delete button to delete the path.
As above, if you tap on a path and slide left, you will see the buttons shown above. Tap on the Share button to export the path as a GPX file.
